Collected Essays

I have been writing commentaries and having them published in various newspapers, mostly in Las Vegas, for more than 15 years.  I have put most of them together and arranged them by topics.  More recent essays are found under the "archives" section (below "commentaries"). Although the focus of these essays have been, of course, issues in Nevada, especially Las Vegas, the topics I have written about have obvious national ramifications. The crime control industry is found throughout American society and the problems I discuss here are not confined to Nevada.  In many of these essays I go well beyond the borders of Nevada.  Quite naturally I focus a lot of attention at the state of California which has, for better or for worse, often led the way in terms of crime policies. The problems found in Las Vegas are merely microcosms of national problems.  I will soon have posted essays on such topics as punishment and the war on terror, among other topics.  Click below to view these essays.
